Romelu Lukaku believes Inter are heading in the right direction after finishing as runners-up to Juventus in Serie A.
A 2-0 final weekend win at Atalanta secured the runners-up spot for Antonio Conte s men, whose fine late-season form meant they finished only a point shy of Juve, who contrastingly shambled towards the finishing post.
Lukaku scored 23 goals in 36 top-flight outings in his debut campaign for the Nerazzurri following an €80million switch from Manchester United and hopes the best is yet to come.
Serie A is finished but we re still building and going the right way, the Belgium striker wrote in an Instagram post.
Thank you for supporting the team throughout this season. To all of my team-mates, you guys have been wonderful. I would give my …
Market: Ipswich win
Odds: 8/15 @
Looking to extend on their EFL Cup adventure on Wednesday night, Ipswich will welcome Bristol Rovers to Portman Road in midweek.
Starting with the hosts, marking their Championship return with what was a stellar performance on the road last weekend, Ipswich are certainly riding what has been a remarkable wave of momentum. Eventually snatching a 2-1 victory away at Sunderland and continuing to gain a string of plaudits, the Blues suddenly have their sights set on mounting another genuine promotion charge this time around. With the mood around Portman Road at the highest it has been in recent memory, Kieran McKenna’s men will be confident of making another statement in midweek when they open their EFL Cup adventure here. Breezing…
Arsenal s Jurrien Timber is the latest player to criticise the fixture schedule, saying he agrees with comments made by Manchester City midfielder Rodri.
City s Rodri, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Premier League clash against Arsenal earlier in September, warned of possible strike action as players face an expanded Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup.
Timber missed most of last season with a cruciate knee ligament injury but has played in all six of Arsenal s Premier League games this term, and is expected to start against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday.
I totally agree with them, Timber told reporters when asked about Rodri s comments.
It s a big topic in dressing rooms. I didn t play last season so I m j…
Aaron Ramsey has described Brennan Johnson’s potential as “scary” but admits he was unhappy to see his Wales team-mate join Tottenham on transfer deadline day.
Ramsey spent 11 years in north London at Arsenal where he made 370 nearly appearances and twice scored FA Cup final-winning goals for the Gunners.
The 32-year-old midfielder left Arsenal in 2019 and had spells at Juventus and Nice before rejoining his first club Cardiff this summer.
But having linked up with Wales for their crunch Euro 2024 qualifier in Latvia, Ramsey showed his Arsenal loyalties run deep when he said of forward Johnson’s £47.5million move from Nottingham Forest on Friday: “I wish it weren’t to Tottenham.
“For him it’s a brilliant move. The potential he has is quit…
Scotland could be a candidate to stage the 2016 European Championships, but in association with another country, according to UEFA general secretary David Taylor.
Taylor, who is a former Scottish Football Association chief executive, says a decision last month to increase the number of finalists from 16 to 24 for the event would aid Scotland s chances of qualifying.
But he added an enlarged event would be harder to stage for a small country.
Scotland clearly couldn t do it by themselves, but there s nothing to rule out a joint bid, Taylor told Saturday s Daily Record.
In Taylor s view, only England, France, Spain, Italy and Germany have sufficient venues to stage the competition in their own right.
There would be less candidates to potential…
Megan Rapinoe scored direct from a corner as she and fellow United States veteran Carli Lloyd hit doubles to sink Australia 4-3 in the Olympic Games bronze medal game.
Australia s replies came from Sam Kerr, Caitlin Foord and Emily Gielnik in the seven-goal feast at Ibaraki Kashima Stadium.
It was 36-year-old Rapinoe and 39-year-old Lloyd who stole the show, though, on what may prove to be farewell appearances for the superstar duo.
Whether they play on in the short term for the national team remains to be seen, but this was likely a final outing at the Olympics for both, and they went out in style.
May not have been the color we came for, but every medal means something. Dug deep and got it done

Aleksandar Mitrovic proved to be the difference once again for Al-Hilal as the reigning Saudi Pro League champions beat Al-Ahli 2-1 on Saturday.
Al-Ahli went in front with 12 minutes played when Gabri Veiga was sent through on goal by Franck Kessie, with the Spaniard rounding Yassine Bounou to open the scoring at King Abdullah Sports City.
The hosts went close to doubling their advantage soon after, with Riyad Mahrez and Ivan Toney going close, before Sergej Milinkovic-Savic saw his effort cleared off the line at the other end.
But parity was restored early in the second half through Al-Hilal s master marksman, as Mitrovic nodded home a trademark header from Renan Lodi s delivery.
Al-Ahli were then awarded a penalty when Rayan Hamed fouled Malcom inside…

Queens Park Rangers will welcome Burnley to Loftus Road on Sunday in what will be a game within the 22nd round of the season in the Championship. The two teams are not exactly close to each other in terms of points, but they both stand a chance of achieving their ultimate campaign goal booking a place in the Premier League for 2023/24.
Queens Park Rangers
The Rangers are sixth in the English second tier at the moment with 31 points to their name, two less than Watford in fourth, one less than Norwich City in fifth, and on the same tally as Millwall in seventh, Swansea in eighth and Preston North End in ninth place. They certainly stand a chance of climbing up the ladder, but there s plenty of matches to be played and work to be done …
Switzerland will be looking to extend an impressive unbeaten streak across opening World Cup encounters when they face off with Cameroon at Al Janoub Stadium in Group G on Thursday.
The Swiss arrive at Qatar 2022 having not been defeated in their first match of the tournament since a 5-0 loss against Germany in 1966.
What is more, they will be hoping to reach the knockout stages for the third successive time, after last-16 finishes at Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018.
They will be relying on experienced heads as they meet African opposition for the second time at the World Cup too, having last faced Togo at Germany 2006.
Vice-captain Xherdan Shaqiri may have bowed out at European club level to play in MLS, but he has been directly involved in 48 per cent of th…
Serge Aurier stunned Chelsea with a clinical equaliser as Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest secured a 1-1 draw at the City Ground.
A frenetic New Year s Day game saw Raheem Sterling fire Chelsea into a 16th-minute lead, but Forest had several good chances and hit the crossbar before Aurier pulled them level just after the hour.
Chelsea had lost their last three games on their travels, so they at least avoided a fourth successive defeat away from Stamford Bridge.
However, the point leaves them seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester United as head coach Graham Potter battles to put the Blues back in the hunt for a Champions League place.
3 Serge Aurier and Willy Boly are the third Ivorian pair to combine for a Premier League goal, after Didi…
