The Game Awards will host the debut trailer for Sonic 2, the upcoming sequel to the 2020 action-comedy. The official movie account teased the trailer with a first look at the movie poster, which visually references the 1992 game.
We knew from the first movie that Tails would be appearing in this sequel, and sure enough, he’s there with his propeller plane, the Tornado, with Sonic perched on top. We can also see Jim Carrey’s Dr. Eggman in the background, looking much more like his video game counterpart this time–including being at the control of a chrome hovercraft. The Game Awards account followed up with an announcement that the trailer will be presented by Jim Carrey and Ben Schwartz, and will include a “first look at the next Sonic game.” The Game Awards starts Thursday, December 9 at 8 PM ET. Sonic 2 is slated for release on April 8, 2022. The event will also include a first look at the Halo TV series.
